You walk into a room and see a bed. On the bed there are two dogs, four cats, a giraffe, five cows and a duck. There are also three chickens flying above the bed. How many legs are on the floor?
Since all of the animals are on the bed and no other furniture is mentioned in the room, there are six legs on the floor. Four legs from the bed and your own two legs as you stand in the room, amazed that someone managed to get so many animals onto a bed. And the ceiling must be vaulted to fit a giraffe. Also, who’s on cleanup duty?

There are 4 bed legs on the floor. The persons legs can’t be counted as on the floor as their feet are what’s touching the floor.
Dan says
August 11, 2014 @ 16:45
CJ: Following that reasoning, there would be no legs on the floor. The feet of the bed are touching the floor too.

first of all the question was incorrectly asked because the actual riddle has feet and not legs to prove the riddle suppose to be feet cow have legs hippos have legs but no feet so the whole structure of this riddle is wrong but in conclusion the answer suppose to be 2 because of your own two feet cause a bed doesn’t have feet it has legs
You walk into a room and see a bed. On the bed there are two dogs, four cats, a giraffe, five cows and a duck. There are also three chickens flying above the bed. How many {legs}(FEET) are on the floor?

The answer is not six its four. The question is how many legs are on the floor. Since the bed has only one foot and has four legs to support the bed and the person who walked in to the room was on there feet when they walked in and not on there legs. The answer is four.
Jane says
June 10, 2015 @ 14:34
it asks how many legs on the floor? You do not walk on your legs but on your feet so your legs are not on the floor. So the answer would be 4 from the bed

Actually the bed could just be a mattress and in that case there are no legs on the floor. The bed could have a frame with 2 legs and in that case there would be 2. Or there could be 4 legs from the bed. The persons legs are not on the floor their feet are on the floor.

I agree 100% of None. Anatomically speaking, we stand on our feet. Beds do not have legs but posts or even feet. If we are focusing on the organics of the question we are negating the fact that the bed may just have a wooden frame such as a ‘Platform’ style. The riddle is not well constructed and left open way too many holes in the plot.

Neo says
June 20, 2015 @ 03:51
The answer is ZERO….
You cannot be counted as your feet are on the floor, not your legs.
Since beds can have a various number of legs depending on design and size, you have to use the most logical theory to get one answer, so the bed has to have no legs to gain one answer.
Scott Deaver says
June 20, 2015 @ 17:47
There’s nothing that says you are the only observer, or that you walked into the room via the floor as opposed to a raised platform. There’s nothing that says “you” have legs at all – even double amputees can walk, though not necessarily on legs. There’s nothing that says you are in the same room as the bed – so which floor, including any others in adjoining rooms? There’s nothing to define “legs” – certainly beds and other items of furniture can have legs. There’s nothing to say that some of the animals do not not have one or more legs hanging off the bed onto the floor. There’s nothing to say the bed you see isn’t in a painting or mirror, so you cannot know the relationship of any legs associated with the bed to the room you are in. You cannot know the room isn’t a movie or music video prop and upside down (and therefore you are standing on the ceiling).
What ever happened to critical thinking?

The correct answer is 6. As a reason will be considered that, even two and the bed four feet. On the bed to sit all animal species. However, the solution is only partially correct: Because neither has the bed, feet, still has at all every bed legs. Who, however, any discussion escape want, you should see the correct answer 6 specify.

Ponder this for a moment……from the description that is given…there is no definite answer due to lack of info. It just says you see a bed. The bed could be suspended from a wall or ceiling, could be a pedestal style bed, and there is no pic to go along with it so there is no true answer. The only true thing about it is that we know that the person who walked into the room, his/her legs aren’t on the floor due to being on their feet. And do we know that there actually is a floor in this room or could it be a “room” in a barn or out building with dirt under it (hence there being so many animals on the bed).

The answer given as 6 by the riddler cannot possibly be correct – not all beds have legs, whilst on those who do, some have feet. If you count the person….well, their legs aren’t on the floor, their FEET are.
So, it could be 6 (bed with 6 legs and no feet) 4 (bed with 4 legs and no feet) or ZERO: bed has a base but no legs, and the person’s FEET are on the floor. Actually, there are even more possibilities, so how the official can be “6” is beyond me!!

The correct answer is NONE. A human stands on its FEET, the legs only touch the floor if you are lying down, sitting on the floor or don’t possess feet. The bottom part of the leg of a bed is called a FOOT, so even a bed doesn’t stand on legs, it stands on feet.

0, neither you nor the bed (the only things touching the floor) are on your legs, you and the bed are both on your feet. So TECHNICALLY the answer the poster gave is wrong. Yes, the bottom of furniture’s legs are called “feet”. Not to be confused with the “foot” of the bed (where your feet rest when you are laying down.)
On another note: YES chickens absolutely CAN fly unless their winds are clipped. They cant fly far because of their weight, but they can fly. (I would know, I raise them.)

First of all, it does not state the bed was set up with the legs on the floor. You must assume it.
2nd, the person who walked in, may not be standing, but still walking. One leg at a time.
3rd, no legs were on the floor at least by the person walking in. His feet might be, but not his legs. Does the bed even have legs? Maybe just a box spring. Maybe the legs had pads, or adjustable feet.
This riddle leaves a lot to the imagination.

Actually there is no definative answer, it’s a flawed riddle
People assume 4 legs on the bed, some beds have 6, some 5, some have none
Also you walk on your feet, so legs not touching the ground
But even if you count feet as part of your legs, it depends if you are wearing shoes, if you are, you are not touching the ground, so technically not on the floor, you are on your shoes

The chickens were not on the floor, if they were not flying they were roosting on the bed or the head board or on the giraffe’s and or the cow’s back. so it is 6 back

All who have answered as 10is correct. Why bcos
4 legs of bed are touching the floor
My 2 leg are on the floor
4 legs of the chair on which the chicken are flying
This make it 10 leg.

It’s so OBVIOUS! You can’t WALK on your legs, you would have to CRAWL, and this says the person is STANDING, and beds don’t stand on their legs, they stand on their ‘feet’. I quoted that because beds don’t actually have feet… Anyway, the correct answer is zero, so Antonio, Dave, Heffajean, Pascale, Roseb, Mary, Neo, Gugu, Nette, Dvas, Victoria, Don, Theresa, HotLips, Gym, April, Vee, Bokals, Gary, I all got the correct answer! Also, Emily, when you commented on February 4th, 2016, you swore. Please mind your language, so we can make this website welcoming to all.

What about the chair?
Vince says
July 19, 2020 @ 09:37
It is simple.
4 LEGS.
Beds do not have Legs or Feet, they have a Bed Frame, or it could be just the Mattress and Box spring on the floor.
The person standing in the room is
“Standing in the room on his FEET”
Not his legs.
Do any of you recall this little ditty?
” The back bone is attached to the hip bone, the hip bone is attached to the leg bone, the leg bone is attached to the foot bone ”
That pretty much proves that the last thing to be touching the floor is your FEET not LEGS.
The only LEGS left touching the floor is on the CHAIR.
Chairs have Legs.

Lloyd says

The answer is not valid. Reason, there are 4 legs on the bed and there are 4 legs on the chair. You standing are on your feet not your legs.

All the animals are on the bed (0 feet on the floor)
The bed is on the floor but has bed posts not legs.
The chickens are flying above the chair (momentarily cos they can’t fly far so maybe landed on the bed)
The chair is on the floor presumably.
Chairs have 4 legs but this is obviously a farm and the animals have all escaped into the bedroom 😀
So is the chair really a milking stool with 3 legs???
Answer 3

All of the animals would collapse the bed, and people stand on feet so 0.

Four. The bedframe has no legs, the chair has three, and I’m missing one. What a stupid riddle…too many assumptions

LEGS… not feet? I think that that’s not important.
Chickens can’t fly but they can lift off for a moment or 2, especially when they see my mug and big feet enter the room, & they can smell that I was just at KFC for hot wings. (If I had bought the chicken legs, and still had them in my hand when I entered that room, then I might just drop all 12 (dozen bucket) of them on the ground at the sight of all the goings-on, which would be 12 LEGS.
I’m not currently a wheel chair user, so my LEGS are 2.
It could be a platform bed… water bed or such, but I’ll assume it is a standard 4 LEG GIANT bed, although I doubt a bed could contain so much weight unless it was platform, or 6/8/10-leg.
With all those animals and my big smelly feet… bed bugs? fleas? Any on the ground? Probably all spooning in the bed.
WAIT!!! it could be a Castro Convertible or a fold-down Wardrobe bed… how many legs there?
I think I’m getting the hang of this DISTRACTION stuff….
But I will go with 6 LEGS on the ground.
My answer: SIX LEGS.

Even if you go with the assumption that you don’t count your legs because your feet are touching the ground yes the bed has four legs I have yet to see a single person make a comment about the fact that a chair has four legs also aren’t the chickens flying over a chair so logically wouldn’t that be eight legs touching the floor

Why isn’t anyone talking about the chair inside the bedroom? Don’t chairs have legs? I know the answer is 6 meaning four bed legs and two human legs but chair is not being mention at all

I find it hilarious that this site uses the version of the joke that has no chair involved in it. Yet people comment on how oblivious we are to the fact there is a chair mentioned that “no one” has addressed. The Facebook version does have a chair but it doesn’t say where it is.
Since the exact situation is unclear – there is no correct solution to this riddle. All we know for sure is that the solution:
1) does not care about the animals in the room; they are on the bed or in flight.
2) does not count the human who just walked in (our feet or shoes or socks etc. are on the floor certainly not our legs)
3) does care about the bed – which could have between 0 -> very large number of legs) on the floor
4) (For the version with the chair) does care about the chair – nothing says if the chair is on the floor or bed so between 0 to a very large number
So at the end of the day all we know is that there is some where between 0 and a big number of legs on the floor.

I’m still saying 6… 4 legs on the bed and yes my legs because if I saw all that madness I would probably pass out… So my legs would be touching the floor.
This is what Amy said.
I’m going along with her answer, because it made me laugh.
