An Elevator Accident

I’m in an elevator with two other people. When it reaches the first floor, one person gets out and six get in. When it reaches the second floor, three people get out and twelve get in. At the third floor, five leave and nine enter. It rises to the fourth floor, one person gets on and the doors close. Suddenly, the elevator cable snaps and the car smashes to the ground. No one survives the fall, yet I’m alive and know exactly how many people go on and off the elevator at every floor. How is this possible?

I got off at the first floor. I’m a security guard and knew how many people got on and off the elevator by watching the surveillance footage.

That’s a good point. I have modified it so that’s no longer a viable option.

You don’t need to have been in the lift at all, you could have just been watching the CCTV.

Just as a riddle

This “riddle” is the type I can’t stand because the answer had absolutely nothing to do with the question. A riddle should have very few (2 at most) answers that solves it. To say, “I am a security guard and watched the footage of the incident” is a made up answer. If you can say that, then why not just say ” I got off at the first floor and asked a security guard what happened?” It’s just as good of an answer as any. Hell, why not just say you have X-ray vision? Lol.

You could also have used the stairs or been a ghost.
