Two Fathers and Two Sons

Two fathers and two sons go fishing together in the same boat. They all catch a fish but the total catch for the day is three fish. How is this possible?

There are three men: A grandfather, a father (the grandfather’s son) and the father’s son.

Theres only 2 men.. reason behind if their were 3 men the riddle would read 3 sons and 2 fathers went fishing. There was a fish left over.

A father and 2 sons. There are one father but shared by 2 sons, if you get what I mean.

The question tries exploit the strict definition of a father or son

BUT

All males are technically sons, as they are all born.

Therefore it could simply be that 2 fathers (of children who aren’t there) and one other man (all 3 of them are sons) are on a fishing trip.

answer could be two as well. Two fathers on the boat are required that’s all, since all fathers are sons, but not all sons are father. So even 2 will do

That makes no sense! 4 people go fishing not 3! And this didn’t seem like a generational question. hmmmmm.
