My Daughter’s Father

I am a faithful wife who married but once. John’s son is my daughter’s father. What is my relationship to John?

Daughter-in-law. Her daughter’s father is her husband (she’s only been married once and is devoted, meaning she didn’t have an affair). This means John’s son is her husband, so John is her father-in-law, making her the daughter-in-law.

John is the woman’s father-in-law. Let’s use W for the woman, J for John, S for John’s son (D’s father), and D for the daughter.

S is the father of D. D is W’s daughter. J is S’s father.

J -> S -> D <-W

If W and S are both mother/father of D, they are married, therefore S's father, J, is W's father in law.

Nowhere does it say that John’s son is married to the lady. So this is illogical and can have many answers.

@Lev That’s a fair point. I modified it to make it clearer that she’s only been married once and is a devoted wife.
