It could be fruit too- the seeds are the precious treasure inside.

The book, The Hobbit, is where I read this riddle as a teen. Gollum demands Bilbo Baggins answer correctly or he will be his dinner. Now, what do you remember happens to Bilbo? Correct. He lives after answering correctly. I’m guessing the ones criticizing are millennials. Poor things.

I was born in 1969 and I don’t consider an egg a box regardless of what J. R. R. Tolkien would have us think. As for the treasure, I believe that was metaphoric.

It’s a riddle using metaphors. They’re brain teasers. Have you millenials lost your sense of humor?

1. An egg is not an oval. An oval is only 2 dimensional. The correct word is ovoid.
2. A box does not have to have corners. A perfect example of an egg shaped box is a Fabergé egg.
3. Heart is an incorrect answer because the heart does not contain anything golden colored, but an egg contains a golden colored yolk.
