A Creature, Part Man

This creature, part man and part tree,
hates the termite as much as the flea.
His tracks do not match,
and his limbs may detach,
but he’s not a strange creature to see.

What is it?

A man with a wooden leg.

Amazingly, there’s another, very different answer: Ant.

Part m“AN” part “T”ree

Hates termites: “Termites and ants are natural enemies.” [“Flea” doesn’t come in… but not so much for the man with the wooden leg either]

Ants change their tracks/trails (toward sugar, say) if there are disruptions (such as water being spilled along the trail).

Their limbs can detach: “About a third of the smaller ants that take part in termite hunts lose a leg at some point.”

:-)

I thought of a “Cane”, as an extension of the arm?
However, as Ramon rightly pointed out; the “Flea” appears irrelevant.
I like the “Ant” idea BTW!
