A Silent Z

What word in the English dictionary has a silent z?

The word rendezvous. Even though it’s a French word, it’s in the English dictionary and is pronounced [rahn-duh-voo].

Turns out rendezvous isn’t the only one. Another word is oyez.

“capercailzie” (a kind of bird) is pronounced, and sometimes spelled, “capercaillie”. As with the surname Dalziel, the silent z is really a mistaken transliteration of an old Scottish word that contained a yogh, a letter that sounds like a y but looks like a z.
