You have a fox, a chicken and a sack of grain. You must cross a river with only one of them at a time. If you leave the fox with the chicken he will eat it; if you leave the chicken with the grain he will eat it. How can you get all three across safely?
Take the chicken over first. Go back and bring the grain next, but instead of leaving the chicken with the grain, come back with the chicken. Leave the chicken on the first side and take the fox with you. Leave it on the other side with the grain. Finally, go back over and get the chicken and bring it over.

Take the fox first, go back for the grain and take the chicken last. Simple.

Definitely build a fire, roast the chicken, make bread with the grain and try to domesticate the fox!

When you are first given the chicken and the fox to take across to the island are the chicken and the fox in cages because obviously if they weren’t the fox being a wild animal would escape. This is a stupid puzzle. I wouldn’t waste my brain on it. Why do you want to take them across to the island anyway? If I was forced to I’d take the chicken across first, then the grain so it would have something to eat. Then I’d set the fox free on the mainland.

Easy
Take the chicken first
Then take the grain and bring the chicken back. Leave the chicken and bring the fox then go back for the chicken.
Plus if you had a fox the fox would eat you!

Take chicken over, leave it there. Bring the grain and switch the chicken for the grain. Bring the chicken back and then switch the fox with the chicken. That will leave the fox and the grain on the other side. Then, bring the chicken over and move on with your life.
