A Fox, Chicken and Sack of Grain

You have a fox, a chicken and a sack of grain. You must cross a river with only one of them at a time. If you leave the fox with the chicken he will eat it; if you leave the chicken with the grain he will eat it. How can you get all three across safely?

Fox and (little) chicken

Take the chicken over first. Go back and bring the grain next, but instead of leaving the chicken with the grain, come back with the chicken. Leave the chicken on the first side and take the fox with you. Leave it on the other side with the grain. Finally, go back over and get the chicken and bring it over.

@Dan

By coincidence, I see an ad in this page saying, “Chicken Cages Wholesale”. You are supposed to bring the chicken to side two first, leaving the fox and the grain. Then, come back to side 1 and bring the grain to side 2. Bring back the chicken to side 1. Bring the fox to side 2, and come back. Bring the chicken over and the problem is solved.

@The Sphinx It’s actually not coincidence. Google Ads are based on the content of the page :)

I know what the answer SHOULD be, but if I were to be honest, I would probably just live on the first side of the river, maybe in a van…

All this backwards and forwards absolute waste of energy. Make one trip – muzzle the fox and cage the chicken.

My answer is th man will bring the chicken to the other island first because the fox cannot eat the grain. When the man comes back, he’ll get the fox but when they reached in the other island, he’ll leave the fox but gets the chicken with him back. When they reach back he leaves the chicken but gets the grain. Then when he go back again he’ll get the chicken.YEA THATS MEH ANSWER.IM 11Y/O

Couldn’t you just
BRING FOX TO SIDE 2
GO BACK AND BRING THE CORN TO SIDE 2
GO BACK AND FINALLY BRING THE CHICKEN OVER
BOOM

The grain would be eaten by the chicken.

Take the chicken from side A to side B. Go back to side A, pick up the fox, and go to side B, put the fox next to the chicken, pick up the chicken, and take it back to side A. Put the chicken next to the bag of grain. Pick up the bag of grain and take it to side B, and place it next to the fox. Go back to side A and bring the chicken over to side B. DUH!!
