it is actually Muana kea Because since it is on the equator and the equator has a bulge muana kea is technically the the highest place you can be while still on earth

Even before and after Mt Everest was discovered, Mauna Kea is still the tallest mountain in the world. Yet.. Mt Everest is still the highest mountain.

Kangchenjunga. According to records dated until 1852.. I believe..? Was recognized until 1859 when Everest was officially declared the highest.
Still a damn good riddle though. Technicalities schmechnicalities!
