A Blood Red Shroud

The thunder comes before the lightning,
And the lightning comes before the cloud,
The rain dries all the land it touches,
Wrapping the earth in a blood red shroud.

What am I?

A volcano.

How does that make sense?

It could be blood from the things the storm kills but that’s to obvious so it could be ashes or Char but it’s red so it’s rather hard
My final guess is a volcano as it links with ashes and Char also lava is seen as red
